Campaign Reports
Summary
Week 1
The Harare teams are currently focused on the southern and southwestern suburbs and Chitungwiza.
This is exclusively an audio awareness campaign with people being engaged over the PA system with only the pre-approved Ministry of Health & Child Care messaging being delivered.
When our teams are making contact with the public it is always at a safe social distance and for a brief time as possible.
Our contact with the public is crucial in finding out what issues are particular to that area. This helps to identify pressure points in an area and refine any aid efforts being conducted.
The biggest issues of these areas is access to clean water, followed closely by access to sanitizers or soaps and detergents.
The people in these areas are largely aware of COVID-19 but don’t really know what it is, how to protect themselves selves or what the symptoms are.

Week 2
The Harare teams are still focused on the southern and southwestern suburbs and Chitungwiza. These are all high-density areas that are at great risk should Covid19 take hold in these areas.
This week saw the introduction of a second team to this area
The biggest issues of these areas is access to clean water, followed closely by access to sanitizers or soaps and detergents.
The people in these areas are largely aware of COVID-19 but don’t really know what it is, how to protect them selves or what the symptoms are.
Requests for hygiene products is overwhelming, as are the requests for food aid.
The team is also meeting resistance due to people being disgruntled with the lockdown and uncertainty on if it will be extended.
They is a strong need for these people to try and provide for there families and as such they feel that the risk of contracting Covid19 is one they will happily take to provide for their families

Week 3-4
Harare being a large urban centre with substantial high-density suburbs, has meant we were able to reach a large number of people in a relatively short time.
Many of the suburbs we visited need new public boreholes in order to effectively combat Covid-19.
People in Harare are generally well informed on the “does & don’ts” of Covid-19. They have access to multiple (sometimes conflicting) sources of information. The MoH health workers on our teams help hugely with untangling the many different perceptions and questions.
Food security and access to water have been the subject of many of the conversations we had with people.
The affordability and availability of the correct soap, sanitizers, detergents and PPE is a universal problem across everyone we spoke to.
There has been more resistance in Harare than all the other areas where we have rolled out this campaign. This has been largely due to people being unhappy with the Government and the economic hardship that has befallen the country.
The campaign has been successful despite the challenges in this area, with many people being grateful for the time and information provided by the teams. Re-enforcement of the concepts would be a worthwhile endeavour.
