Campaign Reports
Summary
Week 1
This Team is working closely with the PMD for Mashonaland East to execute the audio Ministry approved audio campaign. We have an attached liaison office and ZRP officer with us al all times. Their primary role is to assist with technical quires and provided direct feedback for their respective institutions.
Currently, we are engaging communities close to Harare.
Many of the people we are encountering are skeptical of the intentions of the lockdown and don’t believe that COVID-19 is a threat to their lives.
There is very much an attitude of “if you want us to sanitize, wash hands or wear masks the government must provide.”
Many people in the areas visited are carrying on as normal with little regard for the shutdown.
Clean water is a big problem in many of these communities and is holding back most of those people willing and invested in trying to follow the guidelines.
Since we started the awareness campaign there has been good uptake and buy-in with households (particularly the women) but very poor reception from vendors, tuckshop operators, and small business owners.

This Team is working closely with the PMD for Mashonaland East to execute the audio Ministry approved audio campaign. We have an attached liaison office and ZRP officer with us al all times. Their primary role is to assist with technical quires and provided direct feedback for their respective institutions.
A second team was added to this area this week.
We have focused mostly on areas close to Harare, there is a need to do more rural areas on this province. This could be possible with extra funding and logistical planning.
So far the response has been mixed. Many people feel the government is not doing enough to support these communities. With that said they do understand the threat and the majority are trying.
Access to clean water is a big issues through out all the areas we have been to.
Sanitizers and soaps are also expensive and hard to get in these areas.
There is a lot of anxiety in these areas over an extension to the lockdown.
On the whole, people are glad we are providing clear information about Covid19 which is hard to come by in many of these areas.

Week 3-4
Our teams have continued to work closely with the PMD for Mashonaland to execute the campaign in as many of the townships and districts as possible.
We have focused mostly on areas close to Harare. There is a need to do more rural areas in this province. This could be possible with extra funding and logistical planning.
People in this area have given mixed reactions to our campaign. There has been a high police and military presence in this area and as such has meant increased tension. The demolition of homes and businesses in some of the townships has also added to the negative reception.
Access to food, clean water, sanitizers and PPE is a big issues throughout all the areas we have been to, with many people requesting the government to provide these essentials.
The lockdown extension has not been welcomed in most of these places due to the reliance on informal trade to survive.
In general people understand what they must do to stay safe but, in the majority of cases, lack the means to do it.
